American Dreamz
Martin Tweed (Hugh Grant) is the snarky self-loathing host of the world’s most popular TV show, “American Dreamz”, which has everyday people competing for fame and fortune by singing their hearts out and then enduring Tweed’s vitriolic comments. The Vice President (Willem Dafoe - looking amazingly like Dick Cheyney), makes arrangements to get the President (Dennis Quaid - looking and acting a lot like Bush), invited to be a judge on the program in hopes of boosting his falling poll numbers. The President, not sure about appearing on the program, is offered help by the medicated First Lady (Marcia Gay Hardin). She generously gives him some of her happy pills to help him through the ordeal. The major contestants on the reality show are Sally (Mandy Moore), a shallow small town girl from Middle America who will sleep with anyone for a chance at fame and fortune, and Omer (Sam Golzari), a showtune-loving suicide bomber with plans to blow up the president on national television.

Writer/director Paul Weitz takes a break from the character-driven comedies he's become known for (About a Boy, American Pie, and In Good Company) with this wacky satire which blatantly pokes fun at the current presidential administration as well as the hit TV show "American Idol." It's not always succesful, but it's often quite funny.
