Ed Harris as Pollock and Marcia Gay Harden as Lee Krasner his wife and helpmate shine in this powerful intelligent drama about making-it in the New York art world in the 1940's and 50's. Watching Pollock's frustration with his slow to be recognized talent that leads to the alcoholism which plagues him for most of his life can often be hard to take, but the film which was directed by Harris in his first behind the camera effort is played perfectly by Harris the actor in a bravura but honest portrayal. You'll see some of the most exciting art being created on screen since Kirk Douglas played Van Gogh some 45 years ago. Witnessing the rise and fall of this brilliant but psychologically disturbed young artist trying to make a career out of his creative experiments with paints makes this one of the year's most exciting filmgoing experiences.
