Who Killed The Electric Car?
This documentary by first-time director and steadfast Electric Vehicle driver, Chris Paine is about the fast, sleek car that was introduced by GM to California drivers in 1996 and taken off the market 8 years later when the automaker terminated all leases (the vehicle was never made available for purchase), sending them to the crusher/grinder plant in the Arizona desert while people were demonstrating to prevent it. To control a situation they never wanted, Honda, Toyota and Ford also pulled their EVs off the streets as well. The film beautifully balances all sides of the story, featuring interviews with spokesmen from the auto industry, the energy lobby, environmentalists, activists, politicians, journalists, even celebrities like Tom Hanks who claims that driving an electric car is saving America. With gas prices ever increasing, this is a perfect time to focus on the covered up conspiracy that has kept us reliant on oil for so many years. This snapshot of raw, blatant power governing our choices and the air we breathe is totally unforgettable and should be seen by anyone who really cares.
