Jimmy's Buzz Guide Review:
The dependable Denzel Washington is always watchable, and the confrontations contain undeniable edgy excitement, but this is still basically only a coldly violent revenge drama with some nice performances.

Man on Fire
Denzel Washington stars as John Creasy, a former CIA assassin, who has pretty much given up on life. He goes down to Mexico to visit his old pal and fellow ex-agent Rayburn (Christopher Walken), and while there, he reluctantly agrees to take a job as bodyguard to 9-year-old Pita Ramos (Dakota Fanning) the daughter of stressed-out Mexican industrialist (Marc Anthony) and his anxious American wife (Radha Mitchell). The family's smooth attorney (Mickey Rourke) has insisted on hiring a bodyguard as a wave of kidnappings occur round-the-clock in Mexico. Creasy eventually becomes close to the child and their relationship reawakens and rekindles his spirit. When she is abducted, his fiery rage is unleashed on those he feels responsible, and he stops at nothing to save her.
