The Cell
This latest science fiction extravaganza will delight aficionados of the genre. Jennifer Lopez stars as a psychologist who is allowed to experiment with a radical therapy whereby she is able to enter the mind and experience the secrets and the fantasies of her patient, a demented serial killer (Vincent D'Onofrio). This beautifully photographed film is a feast for the eyes but is somewhat lacking in suspense as the killer is under sedation for the major portion of the film. Vince Vaughn plays an obsessive FBI agent and Jake Weber is his uptight partner. The outstanding sets and costumes help to take the viewer on a wild ride through director Tarsem's hallucinatory landscapes, but when it's all over you'll realize that something's been missing; an underlying logic and psychological motivation.
