Birdland, The Jazz Corner of the World
When the original Birdland opened sixty years ago in 1949, Charlie Parker was the headliner and the club was located on Broadway, a block west of the 52nd Street scene, which was a hotbed of jazz in the 1930s and 40s. Now it's a new century and Birdland's still the best place for jazz in Midtown Manhattan.

Bowery Ballroom on the Lower East Side
Located in a 1929 Beaux Arts building on East Houston Street was completed weeks before the stock market crash of 1929, it replaced a three-story brick theater.
