Birdland, The Jazz Corner of the World
When the original Birdland opened sixty years ago in 1949, Charlie Parker was the headliner and the club was located on Broadway, a block west of the 52nd Street scene, which was a hotbed of jazz in the 1930s and 40s. Now it's a new century and Birdland's still the best place for jazz in Midtown Manhattan.

Cornelia Street Cafe
Cornelia Street now offers some 700 shows a year, two a night, ranging from science to songwriting, from Russian poetry to Latin jazz, from theatre to cabaret. In 1980 Stash Records released the award-winning album, Cornelia Street: The Songwriters Exchange, a collection of songs born at the café.
